Michael Beutler
Until 22 February, the solo exhibition of Michael Beutler (°1976, DE) can be visited at Z33. Large quantities of paper, cardboard and textiles were transformed with self-made tools into building blocks for extensive installations: from colourful columns and paper waffles to curls, loops and a wavy weave. Before Our Eyes, from 28 March to 23 August 2026
Looking is never neutral. What we see, and what we look away from, says something about us. The exhibition Before Our Eyes explores how ten (inter)national artists question and shape this responsibility. Their work responds to the political events of our time, with a particular focus on the genocidal violence in Palestine. With images that take a stand or call for reflection. Because as an artist, how can we address violence? And what do we do with what we see?
With works by: Marianne Berenhaut, Ryan Cullen, Marlene Dumas, Hamishi Farah, Sirah Foighel Brutmann & Eitan Efrat, Rabih Mroué, Rosalind Nashashibi, Mohammed Sami, Luc Tuymans and Angharad Williams. [Read the press release]
Art at the Meuse, save the date 19 May 2026
With Laure Prouvost's bronze sculpture and Adrien Tirtiaux's ingenious towers, we unveiled new works for the international art project “Art at the Meuse” last year. In 2026, we will complete the project with the last two installations, by Germaine Kruip and Koen Vanmechelen. On 19 May, an international press trip will be organised to visit the five works in the Meuse Valley. More information will follow shortly.

Emerging talent
Z33 will also give a stage to emerging talent in 2026 with presentations by: Luca Vanello (12.02-12.04), gabi dao (7.05-12.07) and Vibeke Mascini (23.08-25.10).
Luca Vanello, from 12.02 to 12.04
When you say chlorophyll, you say photosynthesis - the process by which plants extract energy from light. But what happens when you take away that energy source? Do you then also take away all life? Luca Vanello explores these boundaries in his work. For his first solo exhibition at Z33, he creates a poetic installation in which ghostly plants balance between life and stasis. In collaboration with UHasselt/PXL-MAD.
gabi dao, from 7.05 to 12.07
Z33 presents the first Belgian solo exhibition by gabi dao, in collaboration with Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. Dao explores the fear and fantasy surrounding various animal species, such as mosquitoes and bats, and draws parallels with the way queer and trans communities and people of colour are demonised. Genres such as experimental cinema, horror, science fiction and puppetry come together in a new video installation.
Raphaela Vogel, from 26 September 2026 until 21 February 2027
Z33 presents the first Belgian institutional solo exhibition of the German artist Raphaela Vogel; with a major new commission developed specifically for the galleries of Francesca Torzo’s exhibition building.
Looking forward to see you in 2026 for a new year full of inspiration.
Kind regards,
Veerle
